In what could have been Pelini's biggest win as a head coach, turned out to be a dramatic loss for the HUSKERS in the final seconds. The Huskers come up short in a 16-15 loss against the Hokies as the Husker O never scored a touch down.

Whats your take?

The defense played hard. Zach Lee played terrible. One bad play cost them the game. One play changed the game was the touchdown that they said wasn't a catch. Are you kidding me? Why wouldn't they take time to review something that crucial in this close of a game. It clearly showed that he had possesion before he was out of bounds. That was the game right there. Why even have instant replay if your not gonna use it. They could have looked at it. I think Nebraska will win 10 games this year possibly 11 they are that good, but Lee is gonna have to step his game up against bigtime opponents or they won't get to that 10 win season.

I expected a close game. I did not expect the Blackshirts to play as well as they did. They executed extremely well for most of the game. But football is for 60 minutes. The two busted plays cost the Huskers dearly, but the O not being able to score a TD decided the game. The passing game never really got in a groove. Helu is the real deal.

There is still a lot of football left. And, the Huskers looked like a Big 12 contender today. They will only get better.

I was pleased to see the defence settle down and really take comand of the game. yes there was one bust that cost the game but for the most part the D was really good and will be awsome by big 12 time.
this is a good measuring stick. I think it proves we can hang with the big boys again. Really a tough loss, i'm still numb. GBR

Zac Lee really Looked Awful! If he cant step up, I hope Cody is getting ready to take the helm, there is absolutly NO excuse for a 5 field goal game. NONE What so ever! Blackshirts looked great!:shocked3:

Zac's numbers were not that good. A few times he threw the ball away. And, he did not see an open receiver a couple times. But, you have to give credit to the Hokie's DB's, they played a great game covering our receivers.

Lets keep in mind that this was Zacs FIRST away game and it was at a difficult place to play. In 2 weeks the Huskers go to Mizzou. Lets see how much Zac learned from this game.

The :black_shirts: looked awesome! Sure they had that busted play at the end. But they contained Taylor and the Hokie Offense for most of the game.

BTW, does anyone else think that Holt's catch in the endzone was a touchdown? How was that NOT a touchdown? And, why was it not reviewed?

As stupid as it sounds and the announcers were right, the receiver must maintain control throughout the catch. therefore, when he lost control as he hit the ground it was an incomplete pass. I think the rule is terrible, but it is the rule. the same thing happened in a game last week, and it was reviewed and ruled incomplete.

Not sure on that. I believe the NFL changed the "maintain control of the ball rule" (if you will). Not so sure the NCAA followed suit, but could be wrong.

I recall the rule as when the ball breaks the plain of the goal line. So when the ball is rushed and breaks the plain, it is instantly a touchdown, (and the ground can not cause a fumble). And when a ball is caught in the end zone and at least 1 football is in bounds then it is also instantly a touchdown, meaning the ground can not cause a fumble. Now Holt caught the ball, got 2 feet, and a knee down and in bounds, never lost control of the ball until he was out of bounds and that was caused by the GROUND.

However, certain rules exist for the endzone only,

But, it should have been :touch_down2:

BRING ON MIZZOU!

It's elementary football to not let anyone get behind your defense in that situation. That should have been pounded in the player's heads during spring and fall, for that matter their whole football career. I blame the coaches for not preparing them in that situation and making sure that they're in prevent mode.

Give them chunks of 5,10 or 20 yards, VA Tech is fighting the clock with an anemic offense. Just don't give them a chance to make a big play. We couldn't execute something so simple like that. Between that and the penalties, I question how focused and detail oriented these coaches are.

the huskers should've passed when running the ball wasn't working. i don't know what watson's thinking suh played his heart out but he can't do it alone. if this doesn't get any better the huskers are in for a long season.:(
