RESTORE THE ORDER!!!
2007 - 2008

For the past year now I have heard Husker Fans say, "Restore The Order"! As an avid fan of Husker Football I get the meaning of the phrase for me. The very words of the phrase are perhaps too personal for one person to define for all Husker Fans. Still, I shall TRY to put down what I believe Restore the Order means to most Nebraskans. I am sure some of you will agree with me, and some of you may not. But I hope all of you add your thoughts by leaving a comment of what "IT" means to YOU.

Restore the Order! When stated, makes a claim that something is amiss. That something is odd. And, (or) that something is out of place and wrong. The phrase implies an ideal, a thought back to when there was a time of order. When everything was as it should be. When everything was right. A historical reflection rooted in tradition of better times... And, an absolute demand on the future!

Husker Football has a tradition that goes back over 100 years. And, for 50 years the Huskers were a force to be feared by all in college football. Coach Bob Devaney pushed the Huskers to National Prominence year in and year out while television was in it's infancy. During this time, Nebraska was known nationally for 2 things, Husker Football and Corn. I can remember a time before cable TV and satellite dishes. Husker Football was a force to be reckoned with... The Huskers were always the other teams big game, the Huskers were what every college football team and program wanted to be. Dr. Tom Osbourne continued the trend, and Boyd Eppley made the Huskers trend setters. The Huskers were one of the first (if not the first) college programs to use weight training as a tool to improve football players. Boyd Eppley was at the forefront of college sports with his strength and conditioning programs. Nebraska was innovative. Nebraska was the Mecca of building players by position specific physical training. Nebraska was the first school to invest millions in physical training equipment and became notorious for creating and building football players. I don't think Nebraska ever had a recruiting class ranked #1. The Husker Football program was literally a machine that took good players and built them into great players. The fruits of the labor were national titles, a record of consecutive bowl appearance, and much more.

And so, for nearly half a century there was order for us Husker Fans. Every Saturday the people of the state of Nebraska would wear RED in unison to show not just support for the team, but respect for the tradition that was built over generations of Husker Football.

Needless to say, everything has changed. The Huskers have not been feared in nearly a decade. The Huskers have not had their swagger, and their respect nationally. The NCAA Bowl Streak Record ended... Since when should a Husker fan be happy that their football team is able to compete with the big powerhouse teams? When 40 years of tradition says we should be kicking their butts!

I believe it is true that the game of football and it's athletes have evolved. And, I am not here to argue one way or the other about the Coaching and offensive philosophy changes. I loved smash mouth football and I will miss it. I suppose I can satisfy that caveman thirst through the defense. But, for the Huskers to RESTORE THE ORDER [with this coaching staff] it must start now! We have a successful NFL Coach, a NFL type quarterback, and probably the best athletes on the field as a collective in 10 years. Husker Fans must be LOUD! And, Be PROUD! This must be the year that the Huskers turn the corner and get back to dominance. The order must be restored, nothing less is acceptable. Now, I am not stating that we must win the National Championship. Even if I believe it is possible. What I am saying is that this year everything should start to click, the team must gel, and the fans must see it. The Huskers should have no second half collapses as last year. The offense should be opened up against quality teams. The coaches have gained enough experience to not cost games by making poor game-time decisions. And, the Huskers should beat either USC or Texas this year. This team NEEDS the big win.

This is Nebraska! The order will be restored! We the fans demand it! Are you with me?
